I’ve been photographing for a year now and I wanted to take a second to reflect on how far I’ve come, and what social media has done for my photography.
Photography has always been a baby hobby of mine and I’ve always wanted a semi-professional camera. No more phone photos! For my 21st birthday my lovely boyfriend bought me that camera I hadn’t been able to save up for. One year later that birthday present has become a lifestyle.
So where has this photography taken me?….
After reading my manual cover to cover (not even joking) and taking a basic photography class, I learned how to use my camera to its technicality. Naturally, I gravitated to photographing dance. This became a new tool in how to view dance and a new art medium for myself. But I also found myself inspired by the everyday things that surround me.
When creating my Instagram account I saw a lot of accounts of these incredible photos taken in these almost fantasy like places. I wondered just how successful my Instagram would be without those travel photos? And I would say I’m pretty proud of where my social media has gone.
I have learned that sometimes the most unexpected photo can be the most interesting to look at. Things caught out of focus, or just happened to be in the frame. You can control the scene as much as you want, but when it comes to clicking that button anything can happen.
Super thanks to my boyfriend for giving me this gift of photography, to my friends and family who are my models and biggest supporters, and to all of you who are reading this and continue to follow and like what I do.
